The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner released the cause of death for a father who was allegedly killed by his own son in their Southbury home earlier this week.

Officials said Dennis Fitzsimmons, 74, died from "compression of his neck with blunt force trauma to his head and torso."

His death was officially ruled a homicide on Thursday.

Timothy Fitzsimmons, 43, was named the suspect in his father's death.

The cause of death for Timothy Fitzsimmons, whom police said died later at the hospital, has yet to be determined.

State police said they were called to their Jacob Road home on Tuesday for a report of a medical emergency.

They found Dennis Fitzsimmons dead on arrival.

Troopers said after determining that the victim's son was the prime suspect, Timothy Fitzsimmons mysteriously became ill and unconscious. He later died at the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
