Rapid transit bus riders could learn today whether the University of Connecticut will be linked to Hartford.
Planners are meeting in Manchester to talk about expanding the CT Fastrak service east of the Connecticut River.
The hope is that expansion of the busway will help people get to and from the Storrs campus easier.
Right now, some buses go to parts of East Hartford and Manchester.
Expansion would send those buses to parts of South Windsor, Vernon, Tolland, Bolton, Coventry and Mansfield.
Planners are not talking about building another bus-only corridor like from New Britain to Hartford. Rather, they said they would use existing features like HOV lanes on the highways to move the buses faster.
Other places like Goodwin and Manchester Community colleges have also expressed interest.
The first part of that expansion is slated to begin during the summer.
Friday, the state could learn more about exactly where those first routes will go.
The meeting with the DOT is set to happen at Manchester Town Hall.
