MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Two funds have been set up in memory of of a Middletown 8th grader who died suddenly at the school on Thursday.

Jose Trinidad was participating in a basketball team celebration when he collapsed in the gymnasium of Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

Middletown Superintendent Patricia Charles said Trinidad received immediate first aid from staff including the school nurse and a coach.  He was then rushed to Middlesex Hospital where he later died.

Now friends of the Trinidad family have set up a Go Fund Me account with the hopes of raising $10,000 to assist the family with funeral costs and other expenses.

Calling hours for Trinidad are scheduled for Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Biega Funeral Home in Middletown.  He will be laid to rest in a private funeral service at a later date.

Additionally, a memorial fund has also been set up in Trinidad's name at the Middletown Board of Education.

If you wish to make a donation to the Go Fund Me account you can find that here, or donations to the memorial fund can be sent to:
