Police are investigating a fight at Chuck E. Cheese's in Manchester.
MANCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -
Chuck E. Cheese's in Manchester said a security guard is being added to the restaurant following a weekend fight that knocked around some children.
The restaurant said the guard would work during peak hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
A public relations representative said the company never saw a need for added security until this weekend's incident.
The company released this statement on Tuesday:
We are committed to providing a fun, wholesome environment for families to enjoy together. We are currently in the process of hiring a security guard, following this weekend’s incident. Our guests' safety and peace of mind is our first concern, which we work to maintain with immediate action. At the time of the disturbance, our staff called the authorities before the altercation turned physical, and we are working with local law enforcement to aid in their investigation.
Police said they are continuing to look for people responsible for the fight, which involved 10 to 12 people.
Restaurant officials said a woman bumped into another person and the groups that both belonged to got into a verbal argument. It resulted in a brawl that was caught on camera.
A 4-year-old girl suffered some scrapes and a 1-year-old was knocked down. Two Chuck E Cheese's staffers were also hurt while herding children away from the fight, according to the restaurant.
A former employee said during the five years she worked at the chain she saw her fair share of arguments, but nothing this extreme.
"I was very dumb-founded by it. I can't believe it actually happened and when I worked there, it was never allowed to get that far," said former employee Amanda Armstrong.
The PR representative said they take safety seriously and noted that police were called before the fight became physical.
This isn't the first time police have been called to a Chuck E Cheese's in Connecticut. There are four in the state, and problems have been reported at all of them.
In Orange, a man and woman were arrested after getting into a shoving match last April.
Three years ago, a woman was arrested at the Newington location after taking out a handgun.
In early 2013, police were called to the Chuck E Cheese's in Waterbury after a disturbance but when they arrived, the people were gone.
Manchester police are still looking for those who were involved in this past weekend's brawl.
