WATERTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

A couple accused of locking some of their adoptive children in a bathroom is facing new charges.

Watertown police said Nancie Barnes and George Barnes were arrested on Tuesday stemming from the original child abuse investigation from January.

The Barnes were first arrested last month for alleged crimes against two of their children in which they reportedly forced them to stay in the bathroom for disciplinary reasons.

Tuesday’s arrests, police said, are associated with charges involving the other three children in the home.

Police said two of the three children were disciplined by being forced to stand inside a bathroom for an extended period of time.

George Barnes is now being charged with third-degree assault and Nancie Barnes is being charged with disorderly conduct after police said the oldest child was allegedly grabbed by the throat and pinned to the couch by George and then pushed by Nancie.

Nancie was also charged with violation of cruelty to persons, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree unlawful restraint, and disorderly conduct. She was released on a $10,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

George was charged with violation of cruelty to persons, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree unlawful restraint, and third-degree assault. He was also released on a $10,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

The children remain in DCF placement, police said.
