BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

A former teacher and football coach accused of having inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old student faced a judge on Monday.

Michael Archangelo, who taught physical education and coached at Bristol Eastern High School, saw his case continued.

He's due back in court on April 15.

Archangelo turned himself in earlier this month after an investigation was launched back in December, according to police. He is pleading not guilty.

Archangelo resigned shortly after police started digging into the allegation, which sources told Eyewitness News included inappropriate texts and photos with the student.

"[It's] very sad that someone would take advantage of a minor especially in the position of authority, [a] position that someone you can look up to and trust," said Scott Nadeau of Bristol.

Dr. Ellen Solek, Bristol schools' superintendent, said Archangelo started teaching at the high school in 2006.

"When you trust them to teach your children and their private life comes out in public, I think it's really sad," said Beatrice Davis, a Bristol Eastern High School parent.

Students at the school said they looked up to Archangelo and were shocked to hear the news.

"He was a nice regular guy," said student Mitchell Rosporg. "It kind of makes me mad. He was kind of like a teacher you could talk to and he seemed like a normal person."

According to police documents, "The other messages from Archangelo to Juvenile 1 said that Juvenile 1 was going to get Archangelo into trouble, that Archangelo liked Juvenile 1's "butt", and that it was "hot"...Archangelo then texted Juvenile 1, through Facebook Messenger and asked her to send him a picture of her 'butt'."

The documents said after the student sent a photo in her underwear, Archangelo reportedly wanted more, but she refused.

The paper work continues to say "Juvenile 1 met with Archangelo in his office...Archangelo told Juvenile 1 that he was sorry and asked her not to tell anyone."

A few days later the student reported him.

"Really unexpected from the students here. He was well respected. Kind of a shocker," said student John Beaulieu.

Police tried to seize Archangelo's cell phone, but he told them it was stolen.

Archangelo is charged with risk of injury to a minor and harassment.

He appeared in Bristol Superior Court.
