Showers possible today with a soaker on tap for Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

The state could see some showers on Monday before it braces for a wet Wednesday.

Meteorologist Scot Haney said people may want to bring their umbrellas to work and school on those two days.

"It's completely dry [Monday] morning, but it will become increasingly cloudy as a weak low pressure system moves into the eastern Great Lakes," Haney said.

Showers could arrive late Monday morning or around the lunch hour. Track them with Early Warning Pinpoint Doppler here.

They're due to an approaching cold front.

"Along and ahead of the front, scattered rain showers will form, and it might be raining here in CT as early as 10 a.m. [Monday] morning," Haney said.

Any rain activity should stop between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., Haney said. The sun should come back out at that point.

He said the vast majority of the day should remain dry.

Temperatures should stay in the 50s.

Cooler air will arrive on Tuesday. Temps should dip into the 40s. The day is expected to be mostly sunny.

"Wednesday will be a soaker," Haney said. "The area of low pressure that starts to move in [Tuesday] night, will march on in from the Great Lakes, with the central area of low pressure gliding to the northwest of Connecticut."

The state will be on the warm side of the storm, which assures rain instead of snow.

"Again, showers will begin late [Tuesday] night and continue Wednesday morning," Haney said. "During the afternoon on Wednesday, we expect a heavier period of rain with a few rumbles of thunder."

While wind gusts could top 30mph, Haney said the storm is not expected to be as strong as last week's where winds gusted up to 75 mph in Windsor Locks.

"Wednesday's going to be mild too," he said. "Temperatures will be warm as it rains, with highs in the 50s."
