A 10-year-old girl is recovering after she was hit by a car on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the girl was on Orchard Street near Chapel Street when she was hit by the car.
She had reportedly gotten out of a car that just parked on Orchard Street, walked onto the sidewalk but then walked to the front of the car in the road. A driver traveling on Orchard Street struck the girl as she drove by.
Police said the driver told them she didn’t see the girl walk in the road. The driver was not distracted or charged, as police said an investigation showed the child was hidden from the driver's view.
The 10-year-old suffered a broken leg and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment.
