(WFSB) -

Whole Foods Market is voluntarily recalling a brand of blue cheese due to possible bacterial contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

It said its Maytag Raw Milk Blue Cheese could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The FDA said Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or the elderly.

The cheese was sold under the labels "Maytag Blue Raw Milk," "Maytag Blue" or "Maytag Iowa Blue Cheese."

PLU numbers on the packages began with 293308 and had sell-by dates of Jan. 20, 2016 and March 21, 2016.

The packages were sold nationwide in the stores' cheese cases.

No illnesses were reported and the recall was issued only out of an abundance of caution, according to the FDA.

Customers should discard the cheese and bring receipts into the store for a full refund.

Anyone with questions can call 512-477-5566, extension 20060.
