The University of Connecticut announced its new athletic director on Tuesday morning.
The school held a news conference to officially introduce David Benedict at 11 a.m. at the football practice facility on the Storrs campus.
It was live streamed here.
"We're going to win on the field and win in the classroom," Benedict said during the news conference. "We need to foster an environment where our student athletes are engaged with their university."
Benedict said the student body would be critical in making that happen.
"In return, we need you to support our student athletes," he said. "We need you to purchase tickets."
Benedict said they'll explore all avenues of making revenue.
"It is an extreme honor to be standing here today," he said. "There is a lot of work to do."
Benedict was the chief operating officer for Auburn's athletic department.
He'll be taking over for Warde Manuel, who is leaving next month to become athletic director at the University of Michigan.
Benedict has held positions at Virginia Commonwealth, Long Beach State and Arizona State, according to UConn.
