A pet loss counselor is calling for employers to offer bereavement days for workers whose pets have died.
Andrea Seader, a pet loss and bereavement counselor, said she runs a weekly support group in Manchester.
She said she has seen a recent spike in people looking for support after losing a pet.
That's why believes companies should consider adding bereavement days.
"The overwhelming shock and disbelief of losing your animal companion can make you feel like you can not perform," Seader said. "And just having a couple days off just so you can kind of deal with the reality of the loss would be helpful."
A recent study found that 30 percent of pet owners felt grief and sadness for at least six months after losing a cat or dog.
