SOMERS, CT (WFSB) -

A man in Somers was arrested on assault charges after a victim was heard screaming late Tuesday night.

Earl Edwards, 47, of Manchester, was found to be highly intoxicated when state police found him.

Troopers said they received a report of a female screaming in the area of 156 Main St. just after 10 p.m.

State police said they learned that Edwards assaulted and choked the victim, then left a home in the area on foot. He headed east on Route 190 towards its intersection with Hall Hill Road.

He was located nearby.

Troopers charged him with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and second-degree unlawful restraint.

Edwards was held on a $30,000 surety bond and scheduled to face a judge in Rockville Superior Court Wednesday.
