SHELTON, CT (WFSB) -

Investigators are asking for the public’s help locating a potential eyewitness to a crash in Shelton this weekend that left a 17-year-old high school student dead.

Police said 17-year-old Edmund Conklin died in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Bridgeport Avenue around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Conklin, who was a basketball standout and honor student at Shelton High School, was found on the side of the roadway outside of the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital where police said he died from his injuries.

Surveillance footage caught an unidentified man entered the Walgreens Pharmacy, located at 700 Bridgeport Ave., on Feb. 28. Police said that man told the clerk about the crash involving Conklin.

However, the man left the scene before investigators could talk to him. On Wednesday, they released a surveillance photo of the man in hopes of speaking with him.

Police made it clear that the man is only wanted as an eyewitness and “there is no indication that the male was involved with the crash.”

Anyone with any information about this possible eyewitness is asked to call the Shelton Police Department at 203-924-1544.

The Shelton High School community continues to mourn the loss of Conklin, who was a senior. Crisis teams were made available to help students and staff cope with the loss.
