NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Flames forced a family from their New Haven home on Thursday morning.

The fire broke out at the three-family home at 704 Winchester Ave. around 6 a.m.

Only two-thirds of the home was said to be occupied.

Six children and two adults escaped the flames. They lived on the first floor, which is where firefighters said the fire began.

They said it started in a bedroom.

No one appeared to have been hurt and no roads were closed.

Neighbors and the American Red Cross were said to be helping the family.

The New Haven Fire Department said several engines were brought to the scene.

The cause has yet to be determined.

The home was damaged but not considered a loss, firefighters said.
