Young gymnasts from Newington took a trip to Philadelphia to help raise awareness about breast cancer.
The competition team from New England Gymnastics Express" said it recently attended the Pink Invitational.
Team members said they worked together with bake sales, silent auctions, bucket shakes and more to raise more than $28,000 for breast cancer research.
During the competition, they also had the chance to meet and take photos with Olympic gold medalist Makayla Maroney.
"We won a mat too for being the top raiser but I think more than that," said Jennifer Castarino, a gymnast. "It is the fact they we are really helping people."
The group said it plans to attend the Pink Invitational again next year and hopes to make an even larger donation.
