SHELTON, CT (WFSB) -

On Thursday, the Shelton High School Boys Basketball team made the decision to forfeit their upcoming playoff game.

This decision comes after their team member, Ed Conklin, was killed in a crash early Sunday morning.

The team had been scheduled to play Waterbury’s Crosby High School next Tuesday.

In a statement, Superintendent of Schools Christopher Clouet said “In light of the recent tragic death of a member of the SHS basketball team, the decision was made -with input from the athletic director, the Coach and the Principal to forfeit next week's scheduled play-off game. CIAC officials have been informed.”

The cause of the deadly crash still remains under investigation.
