Woodbury resident dies after crash in Southbury

A 68-year-old man died after a two-vehicle crash in Southbury on Friday morning.

Benjamin J. Stochmall was driving in a 2002 Dodge Dakota northbound on Main Street North around 7:20 a.m. Police said a 1999 Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound went into the northbound lane and struck the Dakota head-on.

Police said the driver of the Cherokee, Woodbury resident James Churchill, was extricated from the vehicle. Churchill was rushed to Waterbury Hospital where police said he died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Police said Stochmall was rushed to Danbury Hospital with head and facial injuries.

Police said the northbound lane was snow/ice covered at the time of crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
