Police: Woman shot, man stabbed during apparent home invasion

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Hartford police continue to investigate after two people were injured during what appears to be a home invasion that occurred early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to 60 Van Block Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. on reports that two men had broke into an apartment at the address and begun arguing with the occupants.

When police arrived they found the a man who lived inside the apartment had been stabbed numerous times.  Police said a woman who was also inside the apartment was also shot once in the thigh, a neighbor rushed her to nearby Hartford Hospital.

Police have identified the victims as 35-year-old Jimmy Ball and 30-year-old Dianna Ford-Ortiz.

Both suspects fled the scene before police arrived and at this time officer do not have a description of them.

The victims both remain in the hospital currently, police said Ball did suffer some serious injuries and is listed in guarded condition at this time.  Ford-Ortiz is expected to recover from her injuries.

Police said they are looking into the possibility that the incident is connected to narcotic activity and police have secured a search warrant for the home.
