HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -

A man was arrested for robbing an 85-year-old woman in Hamden last month.

Police said 47-year-old Jeffrey Small of New Haven approached the victim on Feb. 20, who was sitting in her vehicle in a Dixwell Avenue parking lot.

They said at first, Small simply asked for some money.

As the victim reached into her purse to give him a few dollars, Small snatched the whole purse.

Police said he fled on foot southbound on Dixwell Avenue.

The women chased the suspect for a short distance. She told police she was able to find her purse on the ground in front of a business. She reported that $50 and various credit cards were missing.

Investigators were able to develop Small as a suspect and applied for an arrest warrant.

On Sunday, police said they responded to reports of a person aggressively approaching people asking for money. That person was identified as Small.

He was arrested on the scene.

Police said they charged him with third-degree robbery and second-degree larceny for the charges in the warrant.

He was held on a $30,000 bond and scheduled to face a judge in Meriden on March 21.
