Almost three years ago, Victoria McGrath was near the finish line when two bombs went off at the Boston Marathon.
Shrapnel went into her leg, but a first responder used a t-shirt as a tourniquet and she was carried to safety.
A truly sad twist of fate—23-year-old McGrath, originally from Weston, was killed in a crash while traveling in Dubai over the weekend.
She and another woman, identified as Priscilla Perez Torres, were killed. They were both students at Northeastern University.
After the bombing, McGrath suffered nerve damage, but as of Monday night, there weren’t many new details being released about the crash.
In a statement, Tufts Medical Center, where McGrath was treated, said “Our hearts ache for the family & friends of our former patient Victoria McGrath. She made a lasting impact on those who knew her."
According to Northeastern, both women were on a personal trip and were not studying abroad when the crash happened.
They were set to graduate this spring.
