HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Three men were arrested after shots were fired and they led police on a car chase and foot pursuit in New Haven on Thursday afternoon.

New Haven police arrested 19-year-old Anthony Pritchette, 19-year-old Terrence Allen and 23-year-old Brian Ward, all of New Haven.

Police said a detective radioed the department after he witnessed Pritchette firing a handgun in the area of Bouchet Lane around 12:45 p.m. Before more officers could arrive, Pritchette, Allen and Ward fled the scene in a gold Audi.

Police said the suspects struck a motorist on Route 80 and the driver was unharmed. Officers blocked the suspect’s car on Middletown Avenue in New Haven.

Ward was arrested first. A short time later, police arrested Ward near the vehicle. After Pitchette led police through the swamp and up a nearby embankment, he surrendered to arrest.

Police and diving crews searched the swamp, where the car chase ended, for nine hours. After that time, police said they recovered the handgun Pritchette had fired. It was reported as stolen.

Ward was charged with interfering with an officer and resisting arrest, possession of an illegal substance and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Allen was charged him interfering with an officer, resisting arrest, and several counts of reckless endangerment.

Pritchette was charged with interfering with an officer and resisting arrest, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a firearm.

The case remains under investigation.
