WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WFSB) -

A Willimantic man was arrested Saturday night after he assaulted an officer.

At approximately 6:55 pm, Alberto Dejesus-Rosado, 31, was approached by police. Dejesus-Rosado was wanted on a Danielson Superior Court arrest warrant for assault in the third degree and breach of peace.

When police attempted to arrest Dejesus-Rosado, he "actively resisted" and assaulted one of the officers.

He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Dejesus-Rosado was found to be in possession of powder and crack cocaine, which officers believe he intended to sell.

Dejesus-Rosado was arrested and is facing several charges, including assault on a police officer, tampering with evidence, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, and interfering with an officer.

He was released after posting a $10,000 bond for the warrant charges and a separate $75,000 bond for the new charges from that night.

The officer was treated at Windham Hospital and released.

Dejesus-Rosado will be expected at court on March 22.
