NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -

An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with a sex assault in Naugatuck on Monday morning.

Police sent out a mug shot of Matthew DelBuono this weekend in hopes of making an arrest.

"We have made several attempts to contact this person," said Lt. Bryan Cammarata, Naugatuck police. "He has ignored those attempts."

DelBuono was found in Waterbury based off of tips sent in to the police department.

"When they located him they were able to identify that it was him and took him into custody," Cammarata said.

DelBuono was charged with third-degree sex assault and illegal sexual contact with a minor.

Police said the victim was known to the suspect, but not over a long period of time. It was not a high school relationship.

Police described the incident as a cold, calculated sexual assault involving a teenage girl who was significantly younger than DelBuono. They said it happened last week at a home in Naugatuck.

They said he knew exactly what he was doing and that the victim was fearful and tried to resist.

The girl later told her family who called police.

"It's actually pretty scary being that I have two little girls and actually a 17-year-old niece who lives down the block," said Desiree Ligon, a Naugatuck resident.

He will be processed and held on a court-set bond of $100,000.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 203-729-5221 or the confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
