Fire tore through a vacant home in New Haven early Monday morning, according to firefighters.
They said the call came in around 5 a.m. for the home on Howard Avenue.
They said they fought fire in the basement and on the first and second floors.
The home was in the process of being renovated.
Damage to it was said to be extensive.
Officials said a police officer had to be taken to the hospital for evaluation following smoke inhalation.
The fire marshal is on the scene.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
