A gas outage continues to affect hundreds of homes in Monroe Tuesday.
Police said Eversource is working to resolve a gas service issue in the area of Old Tannery Road.
The outage happened around 6 p.m. on Monday. Eversource said it has had crews out making repairs ever since.
They said the power company estimated that 490 homes were affected by the repairs.
As of 11:25 a.m., Eversource told Eyewitness News that the number was down to about 45 customers.
The police department also advised customers that they could receive this message from Eversource:
"A natural gas main is being repaired in your area. In order to perform the work, your natural gas service has been temporarily interrupted."
Technicians went door-to-door in the neighborhood to shut off meters.
"To ensure your safety, please turn off all natural gas appliances," the message continued. "We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation."
A representative from the company was in the process of going door-to-door again to relight pilot lights. All of them have company-issued identification.
Eversource said it expected all customers to be back up and running by the end of the business day.
Anyone unable to return home for their pilot light to be re-lit can contact Eversource customer service at 1-800-989-0900.
It said the outage appeared to be the result of a faulty valve.
