A man was arrested for drawing a fake handgun and burglarizing a West Haven convenience store of scratch-off lottery tickets.
Police said 20-year-old Nathaniel Henry of New Haven was arrested after he tripped an alarm.
Officers said they responded to the Green Fuel business at the 500 block of the Boston Post Road around 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday. They said they found the front glass door to be damaged.
A short time later, officers with the University of New Haven Police Department saw a man wearing all black clothing and carrying a fake handgun. They said they knew him to have a criminal history of burglaries.
Police said they detained and identified him as Henry.
The owner of Green Fuel played surveillance video for officers, which showed Henry try to enter the store with the gun drawn. He thought it would be open.
When he found it to be closed, the footage showed him smashing a window and taking lottery tickets.
Henry was found to be in possession of the fake handgun and the tickets. He was also found to have shards of glass from the broken window on his clothing. A black mask was also on him.
Henry was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, larceny and criminal possession of a handgun.
Police said he was held on a $100,000 bond.
