Someone left racist fliers on vehicles in Southington and police are trying to find who's responsible.
Police said it happened between Friday and Saturday. They received two complaints.
"As of right now those are the only two reports we have of fliers being distributed anywhere in town," Southington Police Lt. Michael Baribault said. "We've received no other reports."
One flier was found on a vehicle parked at the Southington YMCA on High Street. The other was on a parked vehicle at the Southington YMCA gymnastics center on Putnam Place.
The fliers read "American Nazi Party," had a swastika and the words "white power."
"I, personally, am very appalled at this, in particular, at a family place that's used extensively on the weekends," Mary-Ellen Hebert, of Southington, said.
Police said they were conducting extra checks of the area where the fliers were found.
No witnesses have come forward.
"These are inappropriate. It's not illegal for people to go on these websites and look at them or belong to these groups, but people can search them out themselves," Baribault said. "We don't want them distributed, especially on private property."
YMCA members said they don't want the dozens of kids, who come to the y every day, to be exposed to any kind of hateful propaganda.
"I would not want to explain to a young child what that is," Hebert said.
"It's a terrible thing," Megin Chunis, of Southington, said. "It's going to make people feel uncomfortable probably coming to this place."
