HADDAM, CT (WFSB) -

In Middlesex County on Tuesday evening, health experts, law enforcement, and substance abuse professionals discussed the heroin epidemic.

The community forum was held at the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department and was hosted by State Sen. Art Linares.

It was designed as a chance to not only discuss the opioid addiction crisis in Connecticut, but also ask questions to a panel of experts.

"I think part of the problem is so many people believe ‘not in my backyard not in my school, not my kid.’ We want to help people understand this is something affecting their neighborhoods and communities,” Linares said.

The state’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services just launched a 24-hour hotline for anyone seeking opioid addiction treatment.

To contact the hotline, call 1-800-563-4086.
