NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Three Connecticut college basketball teams have taken their spot in the NCAA Tournament.

The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team played on Thursday, along with Yale University, which is a big accomplishment.

After 54 years, Yale made it into the tournament and took on Baylor on Thursday, and won.

Yale hasn’t been in the tournament since 1962, and the team had a good year, coming into the tournament with a record of 22 and 6.

Yale lost their captain earlier this season. He was expelled after allegations surfaced that he raped a girl about a year-and-a-half ago, but it didn’t stop the bulldogs from winning games.

“They got over the hump. They did what they are supposed to do and what people say, that's what real teams are supposed to do...they pulled together and got an a big win a few years ago and moved on into the tournament,” said Yale fan James Cummings.

“I'm excited for Yale. I'm not a Yale alum but I used to go to watch the Bulldogs play ivy league competition. I watched them play UCONN when UCONN wasn't a national powerhouse,” said Yale fan Justin Fabiano.

The UConn men won on Thursday afternoon and they will move on in the tournament and will play Saturday.

The UConn women will move on to the next bracket of the NCAA tournament.
