Scooter driver in critical condition after hit and run

WEST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A scooter operator is in critical condition following a hit and run crash in West Haven Friday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., Carlos Martinez, 33, was driving his scooter through the intersection of Derby Avenue and Forest Road when he was struck by an Audi.

Martinez was thrown 25 feet by the impact of the crash.

Police believe he was attempting to move from the center lane into the right lane when the incident occurred.

The car was unoccupied when it was found by police further up Derby Avenue near the intersection of Central Avenue.

Police have located three females who were passengers in the car at the time of the crash. They are cooperating with officials.

Police are searching for the driver, whose identity is known.

Martinez is in stable condition at an area hospital.
