MONTVILLE, CT (WFSB) -

The family of a 12-year-old boy hit while riding his bicycle in Montville has setup an online website to help with the growing cost of medical bills.

Joseph Kolashuk was riding his bicycle in his grandparent's driveway off Raymond Hill Road during the afternoon hours on March 5. Police said Kolashuk traveled out into the street and was struck by a 2005 Dodge RAM pickup truck.

Family members and neighbors rushed to his side after he was hit. Police said Kolashuk, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was airlifted to Connecticut Children's Medical Center and has serious injuries.

Kolashuk remains in a coma at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, however his family said he is slowly recovering.

"Joseph sustained numerous injuries that have left him in a coma, requiring multiple surgeries and resulting in a long road to recovery," the family posted on its GoFundMe page.

Due to the growing amount of medical bills, the family of Kolashuk has set up a GoFundMe page to help the parents. As of Monday afternoon, the account had raised almost $5,000. To donate to the fund, click here

The Saint Patrick Cathedral School, where Kolashuk attended, is planning several fundraisers to help with the bills as well. For updates on these fundraisers, click here

Since the crash, the Kolashuk's mother has Caring Bridge blog about her son's progress. To read her journal, click here
