WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

It closed unexpectedly with no notice to parents, but on Monday the Sylvan Learning Center in West Hartford started a new chapter.

Parents said they were outraged when the center closed its doors.

"The next thing you know parents are showing up left and right and everybody was kind of confused. No one had known what happened at all,” said parent Rush Turner.

But now the doors are back open and class is back in session.

The center’s new owner, Peter Bartoli, said he is looking to right the wrongs of the last owner by offering a credit for the missed classes.

"There has been concern from parents and that I certainly respect and understand. I have two kids of my own and would feel the same way,” said Bartoli, who has owned and operated the center in Southbury for the last 15 years.

The teaching staff at the facility will remain the same for the nearly 100 students they serve.

"They're just going to have to meet us, work with us, talk to us and eventually trust us going forward. But that's our job to earn their trust,” Bartoli said.

Parents said they are confident they’re in good hands with the new owner, and are looking forward to continuing to invest in their child’s education.

"I told him I do trust his staff and that the program is perfect for my daughter and they went a long way,” Turner said.

Bartoli said there are some parents who just want their money back and they are being told to contact the previous owner.

There is no word at this point on whether they will be reimbursed.
