There were two motor vehicle crashes on Route 8 in Seymour on Thursday night because of a crash.
Route 8 is closed between exits 22 and 20 after police said a "minor" two-vehicle crash around 5:15 p.m.
Route 8 could be closed for up to six hours, according to the Department of Transportation website. The lanes are closed while crews clean up a fuel spill, state police said.
DOT trucks called to the scene for spill cleanup. Those crews are laying out sand, police said.
The driver and passengers were sent to a nearby hospital for "evaluation," police said.
The second crash was reported on the northbound side of Route 8 near exit 12.
Police said extrication was needed to remove people involved in the crash.
Two people were rushed to the hospital. Their conditions were not released by police.
The left lane of the northbound side of Route 8 is closed to traffic, police said.
The cause of both crashes remains under investigation.
