A young man was killed after a shooting in East Hartford on Friday night, police said.
Officers were called to a report of a shooting at 107 Smith Dr. around 6 p.m. Upon arrival, police found a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“I'm shocked I didn't really hear anything,” East Hartford resident Veronica Leon said. “I didn't know anything until I was told.”
Leon said when she stepped outside and saw nearly a dozen police officers near her Smith Drive home, she couldn’t believe what she saw.
“I just came out here to get some air and I just see cop cars everywhere,” Leon said.
No arrests have been made in the deadly shooting.
“This is the normal routine when a crime scene has been secured and must be re-entered,” East Hartford Police Deputy Chief Beau Thurnauer said.
Police did not release a motive for the shooting on Friday night.
“It's really rare that it happens around here. It's scary,” Leon said.
