State police trooper injured in crash on I-91 in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) -

A North Haven man was charged with driving while under the influence after hitting a state police cruiser on Interstate 91 in New Haven.

The two-vehicle crash took place on the southbound side of I-91 near Exit 9 around 2:30 a.m.

Police said the cruiser was hit in the left rear side while stopped on the right shoulder.

The trooper, who’s name was not released by police, was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital with “minor injuries.”

Police said 33-year-old John Mickolyzch was also taken Yale-New Haven Hospital with “minor injuries.”

Besides DUI, Mickolyzch, who was determined to be at fault, was charged with failure to drive in proper lane multiple/lane.

State police posted the photo of the damaged cruiser to their Facebook page to remind drivers to move over for emergency crews.
