BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

A Bristol man was hospitalized after he was stabbed at his home Saturday night.

According to police, Gary McCarthy, 80, was found on the lawn of his Stearns Street home at around 8 p.m. He was suffering from stab wounds to his leg and upper torso.

EMS transported McCarthy to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He underwent emergency surgery and his condition is unknown.

Police identified the suspect as Eric Bowden, 20, of Waterbury, who was arrested at his parent's home nearby in Bristol.

Police said Bowden was an acquaintance of a relative of McCarthy who lived at the same address.

Bowden was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault of the elderly, and home invasion.

He was held on a $750,000 bond and is expected to arrive in court on Monday.
