Wind brings down trees, wires, closes roads

Strong winds brought down trees and power lines across the state Monday night into Tuesday and led to the closure of some roads.

A wind advisory remained in effect for the state until Tuesday evening.

Police in Fairfield said Verna Hill Road was closed between Bronson Road and Verna Field Drive because of a tree.

In Plymouth, Minor Road was closed for a downed tree and wires. Drivers were urged to take Saw Mill Road as a detour.

Also in Plymouth, North Street at Reservoir Road.

In Ridgefield, Route 35 was closed between Olcott Way and Gilbert Street.

A detour was in place on Grove Street.

Officials in Seymour reported that Bungay Road at Greenwood Circle was partially blocked because of a tree.

In South Norwalk, Wilson Avenue was closed at Crest Road because of wires on the ground.

A tree came down on Mather Street in Suffield. Police said it happened just east of Suffield Street. Mather Street was closed.

A portion of Rhodes Road in Tolland, between Route 195 and Old Cathole Road, was also closed for the same reasons.

According to emergency officials, the Eversource power company was said to be on the scene and a marked detour was in place.

Route 4 is closed in Torrington by Route 485 because of downed wires.

There have been no reports of injuries in any of the incidents.
