SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Earlier this week, a Southington family was devastated after their pet Yorkie was mauled to death by another dog.

Eyewitness News reported on this story on Tuesday, and cameras were rolling on Thursday when a viewer met the family to give them a new puppy.

"I’m sorry that your dog died. But I’m here to give you my dog,” Maryann, who is an Eyewitness News viewer, said on Thursday to the Hayes family.

Maryann saw the story on Channel 3 and wanted to do something to help the Hayes family.

"This woman is amazing...I would have never ever expected anybody even willing to do that. But I’m, we're all grateful,” said Katherine Hayes.

She added that she is also touched by the more than 200 people who have reached out to her and her family since the story aired, to offer support.
