A man faces a manslaughter charge in connection with a deadly crash that happened in Plainfield over the summer.
Police said they arrested 27-year-old Chad Whitehead of Danielson following a lengthy investigation.
They said Whitehead was involved in a crash on Aug. 2, 2015 around 2 a.m. during which 29-year-old Michael Shong of Massachusetts was killed.
The crash happened on Snake Meadow Road in the Moosup section of town.
Police said the vehicle, a 2003 Honda Civic, was traveling south when it left the road while trying to negotiate a curve. The vehicle then overturned.
At the time of the incident, police thought only Shong was in the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Through their investigation, however, police determined that Shong was the passenger. Whitehead was found to be the driver.
They said he survived the crash and fled the scene, leaving his friend.
DNA evidence, along with video surveillance, from Shong's and Whitehead's locations before the crash helped investigators piece together what happened.
Whitehead was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and felony evading responsibility.
He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to face a judge in Danielson on April 4.
