It was a terrifying moment for people inside the state’s Legislative Office Building on Monday night.
Twenty people, including four children, got stuck in an elevator for almost an hour, but thankfully nobody was hurt.
“We were terrified,” said JoAnn Jones.
Members from Local 1199 were lobbying state lawmakers not to cut jobs, and as they boarded an elevator to visit several elected officials, the elevator stopped between the first and second floors.
“The bell went off and we were stuck,” Jones said.
Police got in touch with the fire department and the elevator company, and to stay calm, many people who were trapped prayed.
“I had great calm people with me, everyone else was calm,” said Eric Ferguson.
About an hour later, all 20 people were rescued and said they are thankful to the first responders who saved them.
It is unclear what caused the elevator get stuck.
