Connecticut is among the worst states in the country when it comes to returning the investment its taxpayers make every year.

The personal finance website released its list of the best and worst taxpayer return on investment in 2016.

Researchers said they sought to contrast state and local tax rates with the quality of services provided in education, health, safety, economy and infrastructure and pollution. A total of 20 metrics were used for the study.

Connecticut was the the 8th worst when it came to giving taxpayers a positive return on what they paid, according to the site.

WalletHub also said Connecticut was the 3rd worst when it comes to total taxes per capita.

However, the state ranked favorably in other areas. It was 2nd in education, 8th in safety, 15th in health, 17th in economy and 26th in infrastructure and pollution.

The worst state for taxpayer return on investment was North Dakota followed by Alaska.

The top three best included New Hampshire, South Dakota and Colorado, respectively.
