A man from Bridgeport is accused of raping a Sacred Heart University student last week.
Police said they arrested 39-year-old Alfonso Reid on Tuesday at his home on Scofield Avenue.
He was arrested without incident.
Police said the crime happened on March 30.
Investigators said Reid took the unidentified 19-year-old victim to his home and sexually assaulted her.
Police said Reid has a long criminal history and it appears he met three girls for the first time that night of March 30 and they agreed to let him drive them back to campus. Two of the girls went back to their dorms but the victim remained with Reid.
They charged him with first-degree sexual assault.
Sacred Heart University released a statement on the incident.
"Our University sexual assault team was called into duty and were on the scene immediately following the incident to offer counseling and any other assistance needed. The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority," the statement read.
Reid's bond was set at $750,000.
Police said they are awaiting toxicology reports.
