Animal control officials in Guilford responded to the banks of the West River on Tuesday for the report of a dolphin being stranded.
The animal was unfortunately unable to be saved, and was a young white-sided dolphin, the Guilford Police Animal Control said.
A necropsy will be performed to see what went wrong, but a veterinarian suspects the dolphin was ill as he should have still been with his mother.
