Police in Manchester said they arrested a suspected panty thief on Wednesday.

They said 61-year-old Paul Lewis of East Hartford was arrested after engaging pursuit into Hartford.

Police said afterward, they learned that Lewis was suspected of stealing 62 pairs of panties from Victoria's Secret at the Shoppes at Buckland Hills.

They said he's a suspect in other thefts at the mall as well.

Mall security said they watched him enter the lingerie store with a canvas tote bag around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. They said they saw him stuff $980 worth of panties into it and leave.

Security relayed the description of his car to police who pursued him from Buckland Street into the Burr Corner's Plaza parking lot. However, he fled into East Hartford.

An unmarked officer said Lewis was later spotted heading into Hartford. With the help of Hartford police, he was arrested on Garden Street.

Police said they seized the bag of stolen undies.

They charged him engaging police in pursuit, fifth-degree larceny, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

Lewis's wife, 56-year-old Donna Fanelli-Lewis, was also arrested when she went to retrieve the vehicle from police.

Officers said they found she was wanted for failing to appear in court.
