HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

An unidentified man is in custody after police said he barricaded himself inside a home on Saturday night and told investigators he wants to die by police fire.

Ledyard police were called to a domestic disturbance at 60 Stonybrook Rd. around 7 p.m.

An unidentified woman on Stony Brook Road called police on Saturday afternoon and said her partner had become violent.

Investigators said when they arrived the man inside the home refused to leave.  They describe him as mentally ill with suicidal tendencies.

After talking with suspect continuously for nearly five hours, police were able to resolve the incident peacefully.

Police surrounded the home after the suspect refused to surrender to police.

At the time of surrender, the suspect was not armed, but police said he may have possessed a weapon while in the home.

Neighbor Tim Rose said he was playing with his 4-year-old son when he saw a huge police presence.

“All of a sudden, I pull up the road and I see them getting out of the cars putting on their flak jackets and stuff like that and said well something’s going on.,” Rose said.

The suspect is in custody as police and the State Attorney’s office representatives formulate charges.

Connecticut State Police are assisting with the investigation.
