Torrington police responded to the scene of a serious accident between a Ford Escape and a motorcycle on Sunday evening. Torrington detective Kevin Tieman said the Escape was attempting to pull out of Birden St onto Highland Ave when it was struck by the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was first taken Charlotte Hungerford Hospital then transported to Hartford Hospital via Life Star with serious, life-threatening injuries. The cyclist's condition is unknown at this time. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.
The driver and passenger in the Ford Escape were taken to the hospital, but police said they have been released.
Eastbound traffic was detoured to Roberts St and westbound traffic was detoured to Johnson St, police said in a Facebook post.
The roads have reopened following the on scene investigation.
