Police are asking for the public’s help locating a convicted felon with a violent past wanted in connection with the alleged kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend.
Investigators are searching for 46-year-old John Robinson after an alleged kidnapping case that started on Woodlawn Street in West Hartford.
Police said after the alleged kidnapping, the unidentified ex-girlfriend was able to get away from Robinson at a rest stop on Interstate 95 in Milford.
"She was extremely patient and waited for the right moment and when he was at the back of the vehicle she jumped out of the vehicle and into a local restaurant....a public place...a perfect place to go if you're in need of help," West Hartford Police Lt. Ted Stoneburner said.
The ex-girlfriend suffered “minor injuries." Police said she was treated and released from a nearby hospital.
Police said they are unaware of Robinson’s location, but said he could be headed to Alabama. Police said he is believed to be driving a 2003 Toyota Sequoia color Silver bearing Maine license plate 3690TD.
Police said Robinson, who was in court for a hearing last week, was under a restraining order that went into effect on April 5. The restraining order ends on April 5, 2017.
According to court documents, the victim told a judge that on one occasion last November, Robinson "woke me out of my sleep telling me that he would throw me out the window," from the third floor.
On another occasion, just a few weeks ago, the victim told a judge that Robinson started "choking me, scratching me, pushing my head to the floor and dragging me on the floor."
"It's horrifying and very saddening for the victim," said Thomas Prince, who is a neighbor on Woodlawn Street.
Robinson is being described as 6'2" and weighs 400 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Robinson is facing second-degree kidnapping, second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the West Hartford Police Department at 860-523-5203.
