Man wanted for kidnapping ex-girlfriend turns self in

WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A man wanted in connection with the kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend from West Hartford has turned himself in to police.

West Hartford police said John Robinson surrendered to police in New Jersey Wednesday.

Police had been searching for Robinson since Tuesday afternoon when his ex-girlfriend was able to escape from his vehicle at the rest stop on I-95 in Milford.

According to police, Robinson took the female victim following an argument which started on Woodlawn Street in West Hartford. The victim had an active restraining order against Robinson that had just been issued on April 5th.

Police said the victim was able to escape Robinson's vehicle and get help from a store clerk at the rest stop when he stopped to get gas.

Robinson then fled before state police could arrive.

West Hartford police said Robinson turned himself in at the Newark, New Jersey County jail, he was still driving the victim's vehicle.

Police are working on extraditing Robinson back to Connecticut where he will face several charges including, kidnapping, criminal violation of a restraining order, strangulation and assault. It is not known exactly when he will return to the state to face charges.
