K9 graduation held at CT State Police Training Academy

MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -

On Friday, five Labrador retrievers and their handlers graduated from the Electronic Storage Detection class.

The class graduated at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy on Friday.

According to a press release, the “Connecticut State Police K9 Unit is the first in the world to train specialized K-9s in detection of ESDs.”

The teams are trained to locate items associated with computers and cell phones. The team is instrumental in the search for and recovery of secreted electronics containing evidence and information for cases.

Those who graduated are: Special Agent Jeff Calandra and K9 Iris – FBI; Detective Christopher MacDonald and K9 Winnie – Massachusetts State Police; Detective Brigid Oldani and K9 Bonnie – St. Charles County, MO Police Department; Sgt. Aaron Whitt and K9 Gleason – Anchorage, AK Police Department; Detective Nick Shockley and K9 Wyoming – Franklin County, VA Sheriff’s Office.
