The state’s presidential primary isn’t until April 26, but there’s a political contest going on in Hartford involving testing your taste buds.
M&M Bistro has created the 2016 Presidential Burger Primary. Four burgers, each appropriately named The Trump, The Cruz, The Hillary and The Bernie. There is also a specialty beer from Thomas Hooker Brewery called Absentee Palate.
The mastermind behind the contest is head chef at M&M Bistro, James King.
He incorporated culinary touches into each burger that match the candidates’ backgrounds, roots and personalities.
The Hillary has Chipotle barbecue, as she is from Arkansas. The Bernie, “Bernie berns, so basically we utilized a nice jalapeño Vermont cheddar cheese,” King said.
The Cruz is “like a Cuban sandwich with a burger on it,” King said, and last but not least is The Trump, which looks like a Trump tower.
The Trump burger is topping the leaderboard with 173 votes. In last place is The Cruz, which just 35 votes, but King said the main goal is just to have fun with politics.
"It's been fun. It's been exciting and we definitely, we've had a lot of fun with this,” King said.
All of the burgers will be at M&M Bistro until June 14, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Shatterproof, a national organization committed to ending addiction.
